Month: February 2008

  • My friend's baby is 9 months old and she can mimic a couple of basic actions.  Her mom told me that when her baby was 3 months old, she would stick out her tongue and her baby would follow.  I was like wth?  Vinny's almost 6 months old and I haven't seen such behavior from him.  So I set my mind on teaching him how to stick out his tongue and in under 3 days he did it!  Now he sticks out his tongue all the time.  It's cute now but I hope I didn't teach him something that I'll regret later.  Now on to other tricks....

I'm constantly trying to see if Vinny knows his name.  I randomly call out his name throughout the day to see if he'll turn and look at me.  Sometimes he does, sometimes he doesn't.  Why do I do this?  Not responding to his name by the age of one could be a sign of autism.  It is a bit early to worry but I'm convinced that he does know his name.  I keep trying to prove it to Danny but the evidence is spotty at best.  Yesterday evening when we were hanging out on the couch, Vinny was looking away from me while Danny was playing with him.  So I called his name two times and he wouldn't turn to look at me.  I called again and he finally turned to me.  Danny was obviously unconvinced and thought it was just the tone of my voice that he responded to.  So I called out "Michael" and he turned to me.  "Bobby"... same response.  "Joey"... same response!  I then started calling out all the boy names I could think of and he responded to them all.  It was hilarious!  We were laughing our asses off.  So yeah, he may not know his name yet, but we do have one thing going for us... when I started calling out girl names he didn't respond to those at all.
