Most days Danny and I have off together, we lounge around the house or have some event to go to (family stuff, weddings, etc). This week, Danny and I both had Friday off and we were actually pretty active. Today, we went to the beach for the sole purpose of.... dun, dun, dun.... taming the beast.... I LEARNED HOW TO RIDE A BIKE! Danny says to tell you all that I was a natural and got it pretty quickly, but I think he's just being nice. I think most adults could pick it up in the same time that I did. It's not about conquering a fear when you're an adult. It's all about mastering a skill (and overcoming the shame of learning in such a public place as Santa Monica Beach). On the way out of the beach I thanked Danny for teaching me how to ride a bike and he said, "I'm your husband, I'm supposed to teach you these things"... to which I replied... "No, that's what dad's are for, not husbands."
After bike riding, we went to the cemetary to put flowers on my mom's grave because it's the third year anniversary since she died. On the way back, we decided to track down a boba place in Monterey Park. This was an adventure for us, because we're like fish out of water in that area... much like how Caucasians and other non-Koreans feel in K-town. We searched the navi for some familiar streets. We've gone there so many times but always with a Chinese/Taiwanese friend in tow. All we know is that Monterey Park to us has always been in the vicinity of Garfield on Valley. So, we drove down Valley and passed by where Shau May used to be, past The Hat and eventually landed on Tapioca Express. Did you know they offer small and large boba ball sizes? I tried the smaller boba balls, and I'd have to say that I like them more than the regular large ones. I'm so not up-to-date with boba culture. I got over boba when I was a senior in college. Do college students still trek out to Monterey Park for boba and other Chinese/Taiwanese offerings?
Anyways, we're finally home now and are watching Castaway. That's a pretty full day for us.

it's about time. damn.
Each time I watch "Castaway", I think about conserving rope. He needed the rope to tie his raft together and, being on the island, he had a finite supply of it. How did he resist the temptation to use it for kindling to cook or to keep warm?
congratulations! it's a handy skill to have. you guys are so cute!
